Carroll County School System is pleased to announce that Whitesburg Elementary School is a recipient of the Early Language and Literacy Mini Grant, sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy at Georgia College. The Grant supports partnerships in projects targeting the language and literacy development needs of children ages zero to eight.
“Emergent literacy skills are critical ‘getting ready to read’ skills that children need to develop before they can learn to read. This grant will allow WES to provide the parents and children in our community with programs such as VIP – Very Important Preschoolers. VIP is a monthly literacy workshop that gives parents the opportunity to meet with educators and receive take-home activities for children ages three to five,” stated Dr. Marissa Ogando, Principal of Whitesburg Elementary School. “The Very Important Preschooler Program is another intentional effort by the staff of Whitesburg Elementary School to support our community and provide a premier educational experience.”
