Carrollton High School junior Collin Grubbs has been invited to compete in the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., following a high placement in a qualifying state championship tournament. He scored 557, five points above the minimum qualifying score of 552.
Collin is one of only 763 athletes representing 49 states invited to the competition, sponsored by USA Shooting, the national governing body for the sport of shooting. Junior shooters are able to participate in sanctioned state competitions, allowing them the chance to be invited to shoot at the National Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This year’s event for air rifle competition will be held April 6-12.
Mike Lewis, coach of the Carrollton High School Air Rifle Team, said Collin has the potential to advance to the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships this fall in Changwon, South Korea, with a top performance in Colorado Springs.
