Joseph “Steve” Smith, age 63 of Roopville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was born June 8, 1954 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late James Ollie Smith and the late Mildred Tuggle Smith.

He was an Inspector with the Carroll County Water Authority, having worked there for twenty years. He attended Roopville Road Baptist Church and was a member of Sunday School and the Men’s Ministry. He was a member of the 1972 class of Central High School, where he was a 3 sport athlete. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and master craftsman. Later in life, he enjoyed softball where he was known as the “Warden”.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Smith Lewis (Marc) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Amanda Smith Carroll (Eddie) of Orlando, Florida; granddaughter, Georgia Grace “Gigi” Lewis; significant other, Holly Jiles and her children Haleigh and Drew Harris and Matthew Jiles of Carrollton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Hanson (Barry), Judy Lambert (Clarence) and Sylvia Fleming (Dale), all of Carrollton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Smith (Kathy) of Carrollton and Terry Smith (Rhonda) of Roopville and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Roopville Road Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Peeples officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Cook, Dale Williams, Jason Smith, Brandon Teate, David Muse, Jared Hopson, Michael Crowe, and Gary Dean. Gentlemen seated as honorary pallbearers will be Gary Mashburn, Billy Sullivan, Rayford Garrett, Danny Ballentine and Jim Baxley. Also, seated as honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Carroll County Water Authority.

Interment will follow in Roopville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
