Chloe Swales, a freshman at CHS, captured first place for her poem “Language of Flowers” in the 30th annual High School Creative Writing Contest sponsored by the Carrollton Writers Guild.
Organizers received 263 submissions from students across Carroll County with three winning selections awarded for poetry and short story, plus the Writer’s Guild Choice Award. Chloe’s creative talents also translate into the visual arts.
She’s currently working on illustrations, along with other CHS art students, for a book to be published this spring. She is pictured with CHS Principal David Brooks and her English teacher Abbie Driver at the awards ceremony held earlier this week at the Carrollton Center for the Arts.
