The results are in for the July 16, 2019 State of Georgia Special Runoff Election and Michelle Morgan has been elected chairman for the Carroll County Board of Commissioners. The District 4 and 5 commissioner races were also decided in the Runoff Election. Of the 77,271 citizens eligible to vote in the election, only 8,287 (10.72 percent) cast a ballot.
Morgan defeated challenger John Wilson by a narrow margin for the position left vacant by former Chairman Marty Smith who resigned to take a job with the governor’s office. Morgan received 4,241 votes, or 51.29 percent of the vote, while Wilson received 4,028 votes, or 48.71 percent of the vote. Morgan previously defeated Wilson in a race for the District 4 commission seat in 2016.
In the District 4 race, Steve Fuller beat Mark Sullivan for the seat. Fuller received 1,780 votes, or 71.29 percent of the vote, while Sullivan received 717 votes, or 28.71 percent of the vote.
In the District 5 race, Ernest Reynolds defeated challenger Jay Williford. Reynolds received 1,066 votes, or 56.91 percent of the vote, while Williford received 807, or 43.09 percent of the vote.
