Katherine Mitchell Payne, age 97 of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on November 7, 2019. She was born on September 25, 1922 in Spartanburg, South Carolina; the daughter of Flem Goode Mitchell and Agnes Mae Holt Mitchell.
Katherine was a graduate of Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina, a retired teacher, and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Carrollton, GA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Payne Jr., sister, Elizabeth Mitchell Barnes, brothers, Flem G. Mitchell, Jr. and Reverend Royce J. Mitchell, and grandson, Adam Thomas Payne.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Payne Stokes (Gary) and sons, David L. Payne III (Alison) and Jackson M. Payne (Regina), grandchildren, Glen M. Payne, Benjamin J. Payne, and Amelia E. Payne, three great-grand daughters, and one great great-grand daughter.
In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel, Carrollton, Georgia with Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Dr. Stephen Allen officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 150 Tabernacle Drive, Carrollton, Georgia.
