Tanner Health System’s Amy Eubanks, MD, FACP, was awarded the prestigious Georgia Physician Hero Award at the Georgia Hospital Association’s (GHA) annual Hospital Heroes Awards luncheon on Nov. 1 in Atlanta.

Dr. Eubanks, who was one the only physicians statewide to receive the award, was recognized for her dedication to caring for the underserved.

From a young age, Dr. Eubanks understood the importance of access to care, especially in rural areas like where she grew up, in Bremen. After medical school, she returned to her hometown to practice and help make the area a healthier place to live.

As an advocate for the overall health of her patients and community, her focus is on empowering patients to take control of their health and not just treat their illnesses. She chairs the Chronic Disease and Management committee for Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well Coalition.

Dr. Eubanks is also a member of the Healthy Haralson committee.  In this role, she is heavily involved in programs such as the diabetes prevention program and workshop programs that encourage her patients to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

As part of a leadership project she completed for the Medical Association of Georgia Foundation’s Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy, she organized a Diabetes Awareness Day event at Tanner, which included health screenings and risk assessments for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

In Bremen, Dr. Eubanks practices with Primary Care of Bremen, part of Tanner Medical Group.

Dr. Eubanks’ passion for community wellbeing has even taken her to the Georgia General Assembly, where she has testified before state lawmakers on health-related legislation to effect change at the state level for the betterment of her community.

“Dr. Eubanks’ dedication to medicine and health care has greatly enhanced the well-being of her hometown community,” said GHA President and CEO Earl Rogers. “Many individuals have benefited from her efforts and we are pleased to honor her with this award.”
