Mildred Imogene Handley, age 87 of Whitesburg, passed away December 23, 2019. She was born February 17, 1932 in Newnan, Georgia daughter to the late Grady Roberts and Sophie Quigley Roberts.
She retired from Sony Music and prior to that was the owner and operator of the Whitesburg Café, and for a time worked for the Playtex corporation.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred K. Handley; son, Lanny Eugene Handley; son-in-law, Paul Smith; sisters, Ruby Roberts Rigbsy, Charlene Roberts Nalley, and Jane Roberts Gaddy; brothers, Edgar Jackie Roberts, Ralph Roberts, and Roger Lee Roberts.
Survivors include her children, Sheila White of Whitesburg, and Teresa Smith of Whitesburg; brother, James David Roberts; daughter-in-law, Kathy Handley; five grandchildren, Shonda Grimes, Shon Handley, Heather McGinnis, Brittany Hampton, and Seth Handley; ten great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM from Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Hunnicutt officiating. Her body will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Judy Hunnicutt will provide the music.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Long, John Pate, Danny Pate, Wes Carnes, Stanley Long and Carl Grimes.
