(Carrollton, Ga. – February 10, 2020) Three Carroll County High Schools received Advanced Placement (AP) recognition from State Superintendent Richard Woods and the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE).

Central High, AP Expansion School

Temple High, AP Expansion School and AP Challenge School

Villa Rica High, AP Expansion School and AP Access and Support School

“We are very proud of our students, teachers, and leaders,” stated Mr. Cowart, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools. “We celebrate these recognitions with our schools and continue our purpose to positively change lives.”

The GADOE designates specific schools each year based on AP testing.  AP Access and Support Schools are schools with at least 30% of AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. AP Challenge Schools are schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students and students testing in four of the core areas (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies). AP Expansion Schools are schools with 25% growth in AP participation from May 2018 to May 2019 and a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2018.

“These recognitions are evidence of our commitment to rigorous academic opportunities for Carroll County students,” explained Dr. Travis Thomas, Director of High Schools.  “Carroll County continues to offer and expand premier academic experiences for our students, so each student graduates either enrolled, employed, or enlisted.”
