Helen Joan Swanson, 76, of Carrollton, GA died Monday, February 24, 2020 at Carrollton Manor, Carrollton, GA.
She was born in Temple, GA on May 3, 1943, the daughter of the late William Walter Bearden, Jr. and the late Clora Christine Stamps Bearden. She lived her entire lifetime in the Temple, Bremen and Carrollton area and worked for twenty-eight years as manager of the Fabric Outlet Store in Carrollton. She enjoyed gardening and it could be flowers, vegetables, bushes or just anything she could plant and watch grow. She was very family oriented, so naturally she was a wonderful cook, and she specialized in “Cathead Biscuits and Potato Soup”. She attended the Shady Grove Baptist Church when she was able. She was a kind, loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by many but will be long remembered for the legacy and beautiful memories she leaves behind.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elwyn Reese Swanson on January 5, 2016
Survivors include her daughters, Jeannie Ethridge and her husband, Barry, of Temple, GA and Sherry Gallman of Carrollton, GA; three sisters, Barbara Cheek of Temple, Mary Sue House of Bremen and Gail Conaway and her husband, Jay, of Temple; two great grandsons, Gage Gallman (Katie) of Carrollton and Eric Ethridge (Tiffany) of Mableton; two great grandsons, Brently Gallman and Austin Gallman, both of Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, February 26, 2020 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. from the Chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating and special remembrances by Sherry Gallman. Pallbearers will be Gage Gallman, Eric Ethridge, Clay Conaway, Wayne House, Barry Ethridge and Dennis Cheek. Interment will follow in Asbury Cemetery in Temple, GA.
